in between (2015)

Fan Haoran

Limited

In between is a photographic series created in 2015 when Fan was discovering the transition from traditional landscape photography to artist photography to artistic and conceptual photography. American artist Thomas Jackson’s installation work Emergent behaviour inspired him considerably both in visual expression and approach in that transition. The conversation between the objectivity of nature and subjectivity of human behaviour is indeed the focus of his are practice. Time, history, space displacement and second creation became a set of keywords in his mind and directed him to deepen this concept. He fully relied on his head and fingers, feels the black and white images, and colorized the specific areas which connect him the most visually and emotionally. Lastly, he used threads and transparent materials to connect the prints, with casual responses, then created several spaces. As a result, in between is not only the resonance between nature and human, but also the interesting and meaningful process in his second creation.
