Julia Scott Green

Limited

‘And Frazer Makes Five’ is an experimental approach to Julia Scott Green’s family portraiture. This series investigates her family’s unique and multigenerational experience of living in Papua New Guinea. Faced with a complex cross-cultural family history, this series seeks to unite and define us through this experience. Locations of significance to the family fill each silhouette, while PNG’s lush tropical environment is recalled through the abstract and playful application of paint. Individual family members are referred to, but they each succumb to the nostalgic backdrop of their adopted home. Each image is a digital collage of scanned acrylic paint , silhouettes and 35mm film photographs of Julia’s family members. Her paint application is informed by Rorschach inkblot tests as well as Gerhard Richter’s and the color sample of her own skin. The result is an experimental, unconventional portrait of the artist and her family.
