Zhou Shuoying

Limited

Dried persimmons, salted pickles, and sharp-angled pomegranates with slightly reddish, these traditional Chinese snacks are the most commonplace objects in our daily life, surging up a mysterious and strong way of existence which fascinated Shuoying. She begins to do different experiments with colors and lights. The objects are continuously being modeling and combined. Squeezed pickles are being inverted, the expired bananas that had a wrinkled coat after drying, and the clear surface of the seaweed were all under the carve of the light, which formed a symbol of organs in a completely neutral position. In the series work of “Objects”, viewers can imagine and consider different aspects of these common objects through distinctive perspectives from desire, women’s relative self-consciousness, or just still life photography.
